The Winterset Community Band can trace its roots to as early as 1911. As has been documented, the band was the childhood inspiration for the famous trumpeter and innovative trumpet producer, Elden Benge. Through the mid 1900’s many current band members remember the Wednesday night summer performances (during their high school years) on the west side of the square at dusk. The tradition continues on today as the band, comprised of a mix of musicians of all ages and backgrounds, still entertains and demonstrates one frill that makes small town Iowa living great!
